The Endless Hustle

Hello, loves! Welcome back to the Death Before Decaf Blog. I hope you all enjoyed the podcast last week, and I can’t wait to do more! This topic was in first place in the polls on my Instagram story for the new round of topics- if you haven’t had the chance to vote, follow me here to vote next time!

Today’s topic is the Endless Hustle. Today on social media, you’d be hard pressed to find an influencer who isn’t screaming from the mountain tops that all you need to do to succeed in your business or to make moves in your career is to… you guessed it, HUSTLE! Time to grind, time to wake up and DO IT. Girl, if you’re not out there busting your butt every possible second, are you really trying? If you’re not up at 4am before the sun even rises working out or working on your business model and coming home before 6pm, how are you EVEN GETTING THINGS DONE?? Do you want to be a MILLIONAIRE? This is how you do it, people. Hustle. Til. You. Die.

I kind of want to throw up just thinking about it. I’m actually a little bit afraid of people who can actually keep that lifestyle up. If you’re one of those people, the wake up at 4am people, this blog is not meant to offend, but to help! If you’re like me, and struggle to wake up at 7am then you’re in the right place! Expecting someone to be constantly on the move and constantly at their 100% absolute best in 6th gear is not realistic. If you are set to kill every second of every day you WILL burn out. It’s inevitable, it just depends on when. Believe me, because I have done this to myself repeatedly. My anxiety gets the best of me, and I find it hard to be still. So, what do I do? I schedule something for every possible waking moment of the day, 7 days a week. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not waking up at 4am to work out, but I am one of the busiest people you will ever meet. My family constantly makes fun of me for it. “Do you wanna go see a movie on Sunday?” “Ohp, one second she’s gotta check her giant calendar. You know what? You didn't ask her a month ago- she might not be able to make it.” They’re all just joking and lighthearted, but there is extreme truth to that! I get so caught up in the endless hustle that I don’t stop to make time for what’s really important- the people I love!

Being the passionate and motivated person that I am, I find it hard to give myself time to recharge. I genuinely love meeting up with you guys to have coffee when you order stuff from me! I genuinely love getting an order of 80 personalized greeting cards and spending my day making each one perfect. I genuinely find joy in taking an event from just a dream in your head to reality. But there is a time and a season for everything. God talks a lot about rest in the Bible- so it’s gotta be important. Above and beyond the whole “self care” movement (which I love that it is rising to the occasion to combat that hustle hustle hustle mindset), God calls us to take time to be still.

“In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves.” -Psalm 127:2

“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters, he restores my soul.” -Psalm 23

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” -Philippians 4:6

These are just some of the countless verses I have to read and re-read to get myself to understand just how important it is, not only physically, but spiritually give myself time to rest and recharge. It’s a constant battle, but an important one. Sometimes I have to stop myself from taking on more than I can handle- and it feels like missing out. I’m the biggest culprit of FOMO (fear of missing out). It haunts me! I wish I could make multiple of myself so I could be with everyone doing all the things. But, unfortunately, that’s not how it works. Not for me, not for you, and it’s certainly not healthy.

So, you’re thinking, “Okaaaaay, so how do I stop, tho???” Schedule it. You heard me. Put “rest and recharge” on your calendar. Stick that ish on your To Do list. Don’t try to lie, I know you have one. For every 2 big things and 2 small things on your To Do list put “rest and recharge” right after it. Treat it like a priority, because it is. Wanna know why? Because YOU are a priority. Your physical and mental well being is WAY more important than anything else. If you can’t take care of you, you will burn out and not be able to get anything done! No one wants that.

However you relax and charge your batteries, make sure that you can do it in little moments all throughout the week, or at least 1-2 days throughout the week. If you have a day off, make it important that your day off stay “safe” from anything else you might have going on. If you don’t have a day off or blocking it off isn’t an option, take 1-2 hours out of your free time (it exists, people, you just might use it to do other mundane things) to do something you love or something that makes you feel awesome! It can be anything- painting your nails, watching a guilty pleasure reality TV show, getting a massage, reading a book, the sky is the limit! But make time for it. Your life literally depends on it.

You got this, girl. Don’t let the popular trend of the endless hustle steal your fire. Make time to do what keeps the sparks alive. <3 The world can wait.

XOXO,

Rachel
